Darselect is a junebearing strawberry. It gives one big crop in early summer, then sends out runners to fill the bed. Strawberries are perennials, usually planted in spring from bare-root crowns — set the crown right at soil level, in full sun. Pinch off the first year’s flowers so the plants build strength for a big crop the next year.
