Growing Silver White — the things that trip people up
- Plant garlic in fall, a few weeks before the ground freezes: split the bulb and plant the biggest outer cloves point-up, then mulch. It roots before winter and races away in spring.
- Harvest when the lower leaves brown but a few green ones remain (each green leaf is a wrapper on the bulb). Cure it in a dry, airy, shaded spot for a couple of weeks before storing.
